What's New? February 2009 |

Our next party will be Friday, February 20th. Advance alert on our next party set for Friday, the 20th of February. There is no theme for the party but the concept is the same: bring out a bottle or two from your cellar (not from Trader Joe's), bring a friend or two (not from out of your cellar), and bring an appetite for consumption. We will have entertainment and foods prepared exclusively by us, so invite your boss, your neighbor, your allergist, your father, your Secret Santa, and even your best-friend's spouse. We have been big fans, and customers, of Ravenscroft crystal for several years now. We sell their handblown stems and decanters. Our internet site www.portlandwinegear.com had them for sale, but then the whole thing went sour. Shipping crystal is risky, as it turns out, and more than half of our product ended up damaged by the time it got to the customer. So we stopped the madness and took the Ravenscroft off our site. We also used to have a large display case in the entryway, but removed it to make more room for our parties. Now, here we are with a lot of really nice decanters and wine glasses. We would like to sell them...to you. The prices we will accept for this merchandise are far lower than anything you will find on the Internet or anywhere else. We have significantly dropped the price – in some cases to below wholesale. If you want to see what we have, and get a price, please contact us. We want to remind our clients that we have a wonderful customer lounge here at Portland Wine Storage. From day one in early 2000, we have had a "tasting room" where customers have a place to meet friends and enjoy their wines. This is where we host wine tastings as well as private events. The room is equipped with couches, stools, theatre seats, stemware and decanters, an ipod stereo, espresso machine, a 12 foot brick bar, bar sink, refrigerator, an extensive library of wine literature, and of course artwork. The item we don't have – and have no plans on adding – is a television; we are neither a sports bar nor your living room. We have added the amenities over time and, with the exception of television, are still open to suggestions for additions. Some of you had asked us for Wi-Fi which we added in early 2008. Our next project is to strengthen the signal so customers can use the wireless throughout our 20,000 sq. ft. facility. We are back in wine rack production and are taking orders at this time. We are likely to discontinue production in the spring, so if you are interested ... now is the time. We have designed a rolling rack that can slide into a floor locker as well as fill up the aisle space in a room. This is an excellent way to maximize your storage without sacrificing organization. These rolling racks are 4 feet high and come with a countertop to set boxes and bottles on. The rolling racks rent for $18 per month and hold over 18 cases. Our eyes have been opened to a whole new spectrum of wines that in the past would have slipped under the radar. We continue to work on our wine subscription company www.purevinewines.com and have been having a lot of fun with it. Pure Vine Wines is a wine of the month club specializing in Biodynamic/Organic and Biodynamic wines. Once you are enrolled we will deliver two wines, usually one white and one red, to your home or cellar from the club of your choice. We have been building a rich catalog of future offerings. Our site, www.purevinewines.com, will also have non-club wines for sale by the bottle. This is a great gift item because it can be purchased for any number of months and we take care of all the shipping hassles. We do want everyone to be happy and comfortable, and are open to your suggestions. We have been slowly adding quality wine products to our inventory and now have a wine accessory catalog online at http://portlandwinegear.com. If you would like us to carry something, please offer us your suggestion. In addition to our latest room expansion, we recently added several more lockers offering variations to our existing ones. We now have non-palet lockers located directly off of the floor, and we have a small number of 8 case lockers. The entryway was updated once again though changes are slight and may be slow to register. The entryway has been "closed-in" from the 55 degree cellar temperature, to allow for better entertaining. Please forget about valet parking, though. Catering: If you have been enjoying our food treats at the wine tastings, please feel free to contact Tom or Joe regarding menu possibilities, rates, and scheduling for your own event. A big part of our efforts to improve the quality of the facility rests on everyone's shoulders. We ask that everybody clean up after themselves and put trash/ debris where it truly belongs. Please stack good boxes neatly, and break down poor boxes for recycling. Separate broken Styrofoam containers from good ones, keeping re-usable boxes intact and in organized stacks. With your help we can stay on top of the situation. Thanks.
